How things happen:
1) Maude Adams catches my eye. I know about her since she is a neighbor of mine (for eternity, in her case) and has some local fame for that reason.
2) I click the Wikipedia link that you so helpfully provide these days. (It costs me a $10 donation because I cannot ignore their funds drive without guilt.)
3) I skim through her story, most of which is already familiar to me, but then I see “The character of Elise McKenna in Richard Matheson’s 1975 novel Bid Time Return and its 1980 film adaptation, Somewhere in Time, in which the character was played by Jane Seymour, was based on Maude Adams.” I liked that movie! And I had no idea it was based on a particular book.
4) I find the e-book on Barnes and Noble and purchase same for $7.
5) I figure you owe me $17.

The portrait of the “Christ Child” is most likely that of Sally (Larkin) Ryder (1923-2015), granddaughter of John D. Larkin of Buffalo, NY. The Larkins were great friends with and patrons of Ivanowski. He would stay with my great grandparents, Harold and Frances (Larkin) Esty, when in Buffalo, and his daughter Irenka even lived them in 1919.
This blog post is a wonderful sampling of Ivanowski’s oeuvre. Thank you for posting!
