Gosh. On the one hand, fascinating. There is nothing in the world more beautiful than the female body, to these eyes. But on the other hand, and not meaning to blow any smoke, how in the heck do you women put up with this stuff?

Let me clarify. It’s not the exposure. It’s the treatment.

Historically speaking, the pin-up image is not a manifestation of sexism. The exaltation of feminine beauty is a post-Victorian rejection of bodily shame and hypocritical moralism. There is not sexism in the Gibson Girls drawn by Charles Dana Gibson at the turn of the 20th Century. On the contrary, for the artist they are an iconic representation of a new and more independent kind of woman. Generally I like the classic pin-ups illustrators, I do not find them offensive or disrespectful. I think that, beyond any sexual innuendo, which is deliberately emphasized, there’s often much irony in these pictures. They make me smile. And they are beautifully designed. Many other pin-ups illustrators (including women) will follow!
